History...
Our history is a little hazy since the first GLBT groups on campus were not as public and accepted as we are now. If you have any information about GLBT history on campus please email us so we can include it here. pride@gatech.edu

A GLBT organization has been on the Georgia Tech campus in some fashion or another - however, earliest reports show how the Gay and Lesbian Alliance was founded around 1989. Amidst the turmoil of massive homophobia, social narrow-mindedness, and a highly conservative campus climate, a heroic group toiled to make GLBT lives just that more tolerable on Georgia Tech. A flurry of debate raged in SGA regarding the charter of the organization-which passed, only by one vote.

That victory won, the fledgling organization slowly built up a group of dedicated members who created an enduring legacy. GALA survived for many years, primarily in its role for being a support group for Tech students. As the new decade dawned, GALA found itself trying to accomplish more and more; a new group of students undertook the challenge of bringing the club into new frontiers.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance was renamed Pride Alliance; the mission is now to serve the GLBTQ and Ally community of Georgia Tech. The future holds many new and exciting possibilities, with the development of a GLBTQ resource center, new housing initiatives, and other such progressive movements.
